Compass Behavior and Compass Academy are now offering Occupational Therapy, with OTR/L Andrea Broderick!

Andrea Broderick, M.S., OTR/L

Occupational Therapy helps children develop the skills they need in order to improve their quality of life and their independence.

Areas addressed include: Sensory Processing, Self-Regulation, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Visual Motor, Ocular Motor, Executive Functioning, Motor Planning, and Feeding.

Any delays in these areas can impact a child’s ability to participate in age appropriate activities. Some examples of these activities include:

  • Dressing

  • Bathing

  • Brushing teeth

  • Playing with peers

  • Participating in arts in crafts

  • Completing school related tasks

Feeding Therapy

Andrea Broderick, MS OTR/L and our Director of Communications, Sue Drouin, are both trained through the Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S) approach for feeding therapy.

Factors that may impact feeding include:

  • Sensory Processing

  • Oral Motor Skills

  • Behaviors

  • Cognitive Development

  • Environment

  • Gross Motor Skills

  • Fine Motor Skills

While using the S.O.S approach a child will learn about novel foods during play, exploration, and interaction. Through engagement, a child is taught appropriate skills in a fun and safe manner, all while following a hierarchy of development. The child will first tolerate the food on the plate, will then begin to touch it, and eventually will bring the food to their mouth in order to taste it and eat it.
